After having released his first EP at the end of 2011, Wolf comes back with a new album this month on 25th: Moody. Still very much inspired by B movies (I’m thinking of Joe Dante, Paul Verhoeven and the like), he’s now extending his grasp on cinema culture in an animation cinema institute in Angoulême, the French comics hub.
This mix of genres pervades his music, which aims to give rise to emotion and is visual above all. Wolf indeed rejects the reputation of mere beatmaker, insisting on his will to create cinematographic and theatrical ambient music instead. However, he’s also involved in two hip-hop projects, with “L’armée des morts”, who will release their album later this spring and “Street of Rage”, a duo who are paying tributes to the Sega Saturn and all the first video gamers.
As to Wolf’s “Moody EP”, it is characterized by different levels of reading. “It reflects who I am: it’s volatile, with its tracks following each other randomly depending on my mood, I’m using a very intuitive artistic approach.” The result is a mine of intriguing ideas and addictive sounds. Collaborating with video makers Pierre Lfr and LaComtesse, Wolf indulges in his first love with a video clip for the track “Metaphysique”, a sweet ballad in the heart of schizophrenia: vimeo.com/59364700
